Meet the team

Dan Powney
Dan first met the Hawleys in 2006 when he worked with Karen and quickly became good friends. When Karen first told Dan about Reece’s diagnosis and determination, he was inspired. Dan was honoured to be part of the charity to continue raising awareness and ensure that others had the opportunity to make cherished memories.

Karen Hawley
“We all think our children are special, and they are, but I feel Reece had a purpose. I have never met anyone as selfless and courageous as him. In one of our many talks when he was first diagnosed, Reece stated that cancer statistics were 1 in 3 and if it had to be between him and his siblings he would always rather it have been him because he felt he could handle it better than them. He also told me he wasn’t afraid of dying, he saw it as another part of life’s journey - which coming from a 20 year old that had everything to live for was pretty amazing!”
Karen gave up work when Reece was diagnosed and spent 18 months with him throughout his treatment. Karen's purpose now is ensuring Reece's memory and legacy live on.

Richard Hawley
“As Reece’s father, I had the privilege of knowing Reece all his life. He was and will remain my hero. Such bravery and perseverance in a young man was an inspiration, not only to his family, but he also touched the hearts of thousands. Despite his illness, he always attended the events held for him and went on national television to raise awareness of the devastating disease that affects so many young people”
Richard looks forward to being able to continue the great work Reece started in helping others, which was always Reece’s primary objective, by giving great memories to last forever.

Robyn Hawley
“Reece is the most inspirational and bravest person I have ever met and I am privileged to have called him my brother and friend. I had a conversation with Reece one day following his second surgery, he told me how ultimately he wanted to help other people and their families going through what we all were. He always put other people first”

Ashley & Jade
Ashley and Jade both joined the foundation after hosting a charity event in their honour in 2022. The event raised over £2000 for the foundation and a local hospice. The Hawleys were very impressed with the joint effort from them both and approached them with the opportunity of becoming trustees. Both Ashley and Jade took up the opportunity and were officially registered on the charity commission in October 2022. Ever since joining, they have devoted their spare time to raise awareness, fundraise and support the foundation’s important work.
